Principal Software Engineer
Role Summary
Design, develop, and deliver control software and firmware for ultra high-performance electronic products. The role includes technical leadership of small, cross-functional teams and ownership of end-to-end product lifecycle from design through production support.
Experience Level
Senior β 12+ years of professional experience in embedded or systems software development.
Responsibilities
The principal engineer will own software components across the stack and collaborate with hardware and partner teams to deliver production systems.
- Design and implement firmware, microcode, device drivers, and higher-level control software for complex, multi-processor products.
- Lead system bring-up, diagnostics, runtime control, and support application development.
- Develop and execute debugging and testing strategies (unit and system-level testing); use debugging tools for root-cause analysis.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to small, multi-disciplined teams.
- Take product ownership from design through customer trials, shipping, and field support; resolve field issues and ensure long-term sustainability.
- Work cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Customer Support, Compliance, Safety, and Sustainability teams and with external partner engineering groups as needed.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Proven experience developing embedded system software for large-scale, complex multi-processor architectures.
- In-depth knowledge of system software spanning bring-up, diagnostics, runtime control, operating systems, and support applications.
- Expertise with debugging tools and testing methodologies for both unit and system-level validation.
- Demonstrated ownership of complex product lifecycles, including collaboration across multiple support groups and manufacturing.
- Experience working closely with partner engineering teams and supporting customer trials and field issues.
Nice-to-have:
- Small team lead experience or proven technical mentorship role.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in engineering required. The role expects 12+ years of related professional experience.
