Job Title

Principal/Senior Principal Engineer — Arm ARM

Role Summary

Lead technical work for the Arm Architecture Reference Manual (Arm ARM), owning key technical requirements for production flows, tooling, validation and publication. Collaborate with architects, engineering teams and external partners to ensure the manual is correct, consistent and accessible.

Work spans architecture, engineering, tooling and documentation; the role drives improvements to specification frameworks, quality strategy and delivery processes across Arm and its partner ecosystem.

Responsibilities

Accountable for the technical direction, quality and delivery of the Arm ARM; lead cross-functional initiatives and mentor contributors.

  • Contribute to the long-term strategic roadmap for the Arm ARM, focusing on correctness, accessibility, consistency and quality.
  • Lead multi-functional initiatives with architects, engineering teams and partners to evolve the product and its QA scenarios.
  • Review and approve plans for integrating new architecture and validation scenarios into the manual.
  • Define and execute maintenance strategy, content refactoring and ongoing quality improvements.
  • Drive adoption of tooling, validation frameworks and digital publication workflows.
  • Mentor technical contributors and strengthen architecture knowledge across teams.

Requirements

Core technical and leadership skills required to deliver, validate and publish a complex architecture specification.

Must-have

  • Solid understanding of Arm architecture and ISA fundamentals and the ability to assimilate new architectural concepts quickly.
  • Proven technical leadership, including working with external partners and customers.
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects that affect architecture, tooling and documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with architects, engineers and external stakeholders.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience working with authors, specification systems or producing high-quality technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with Unix scripting, Python, Git/Gerrit and standard software development practices.
  • Exposure to ASL (Architecture Specification Language), Arm machine-readable specifications or modelling approaches.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's (BS) or Master's (MS) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
