Job Title
Principal RF MMIC Designer
Role Summary
Lead architecture, design, simulation, and characterization of MMICs and RF front-end products for defense, satellite communications, and next-generation wireless systems. Work with cross-functional R&D teams to translate research into prototypes and products, publish and present technical results, and mentor junior engineers.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical experience: PhD (RF/Microwave) with 7+ years, MS with 9+ years, BS with 12+ years.
Responsibilities
Technical leadership across MMIC research and product development.
- Lead RF/MMIC architecture and advanced circuit design research.
- Design, simulate, layout, and characterize MMICs: power amplifiers, LNAs, phase shifters, switches, attenuators, TDUs, multifunction circuits, and FEMs.
- Perform nonlinear device modeling, 2.5D/3D EM co-simulation, and circuit optimization.
- Build and validate prototypes; perform S-parameter, noise, load-pull, power/efficiency, and thermal measurements.
- Analyze data and present results to internal and external stakeholders and at technical conferences.
- Contribute to technology roadmaps and heterogeneous integration concepts.
- Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional R&D teams.
- Prepare invention disclosures for potential patents when applicable.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience; see Education Requirements for specific degree/experience combinations.
- Proven experience designing III-V microwave/millimeter-wave RF/MMIC devices and modules (amplifiers, switches, phase shifters, attenuators, TDUs, hybrid multichip modules, FEMs).
- Hands-on experience with GaN and GaAs processes; RF silicon experience is a plus.
- Expert understanding of transistor/device behavioral characteristics and nonlinear device modeling.
- Expert user of ADS or Microwave Office (MWO); experience with 2.5D/3D EM tools such as SONNET, Axiem, Momentum, or HFSS.
- Strong microwave measurement and calibration skills: S-parameters, source/load pull, noise figure, linearity, and intermodulation distortion.
- Experience with prototype build-up and lab validation, including thermal measurements.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to concisely summarize complex technical concepts.
- Ability to meet customer technical needs and schedules.
- Nice-to-have: SiGe/CMOS RFIC or mixed-signal design experience; published author in technical journals.
Education Requirements
Degree and experience combinations specified in the posting: BS in Electrical Engineering with 12+ years of relevant experience; MS in Electrical Engineering with 9+ years; PhD in Electrical Engineering (RF/Microwave focus) with 7+ years. Field of study: Electrical Engineering with RF/microwave emphasis. No alternative-equivalent language was specified.
