Job Title
Principal RF Designer and Architect
Role Summary
Lead technical designer and architect for mixed-signal RF assemblies within Systems, Research & Technology. Provide technical leadership across RF, analog, digital, PCB and system integration to develop products for infrastructure, defense and communications markets.
Work with cross-functional teams (electrical, mechanical, test, marketing) to define specifications, demonstrate feasibility with hardware and simulations, and deliver production-ready assemblies. Preferred work locations: Richardson, TX or San Jose, CA.
Experience Level
Senior-level; typically 6+ years of relevant experience in RF, microwave, defense or communications electronics.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on specification, design, verification and integration of mixed-signal RF assemblies.
- Lead cross-functional and cross-site teams to design command, control, communications and interface electronics for RF signal chains.
- Define requirements and allocate subsystem functions; develop technical specifications for next-generation products.
- Perform linear, non-linear and time-domain simulations; evaluate tradeoffs and verification approaches.
- Design and validate analog, RF, ADC/DAC, filter and power-management circuits and line-ups.
- Oversee schematic capture, BOM generation, PCB layout, thermal and reliability considerations for SMT assemblies.
- Build hardware demonstrators, execute lab testing, and support firmware/integration with embedded controllers.
- Develop automated test strategies, test plans, reports and production verification documentation.
- Present proposals and technical findings to management and customers; perform design reviews.
- Travel within the U.S. up to 25% to visit customers, suppliers and company sites.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience; demonstrate these through past project work.
- 6+ years’ experience in infrastructure, military, communications or RF industries.
- Extensive analog and RF circuit design experience (amplifiers, active/passive filters, temperature compensation).
- Experience in power-management design (switching converters, regulators) and basic digital logic integration.
- Proficiency in time-domain and non-linear simulations (SPICE) and component selection.
- Experience with ADC/DAC, data acquisition, multiplexing and dynamic range analysis (noise figure, phase noise, ADC SNR, quantization error).
- Hands-on experience with PCB schematic capture, BOM selection, layout oversight, surface-mount assembly and bench debugging (hand-soldering skills).
- Familiarity with semiconductor device use in RF (HBT, GaN) and receiver/transmitter architectures.
- Skilled with test equipment (AWG, spectrum/signal analyzers, mixed-signal oscilloscopes) and developing test plans.
- Strong documentation, organization, collaboration and communication skills; relocation eligible.
Education Requirements
MSEE required; PhD preferred. Degrees expected in Electrical Engineering, RF/Microwave engineering or closely related technical fields.
