Job Title
Principal R&D Engineer — Routing Algorithms
Role Summary
Develop and optimize interposer and multi-die routing algorithms and engines used in production EDA tools. Work on performance, memory efficiency, and maintainability of routing code for 2.5D/3D chip architectures.
Collaborate with a globally distributed R&D and application engineering team to modernize legacy modules, resolve complex field issues, and drive the technical direction of the routing platform.
Experience Level
Senior — 10+ years of software development experience, preferably in EDA, CAD, or computational geometry domains.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include algorithm design, implementation, and maintenance for routing tools targeting multi-die systems.
- Design and implement advanced interposer routing algorithms for signal, power/ground distribution, and shielding.
- Implement and optimize routing engines in modern C++ (C++14/17/20) with a focus on performance and memory efficiency.
- Apply graph theory and computational geometry to model and solve routing constraints in 2.5D and 3D architectures.
- Refactor and modernize legacy routing modules to reduce technical debt and improve reusability.
- Debug and resolve complex algorithmic and performance issues from internal teams and customer deployments.
- Collaborate with distributed teams across the US, India, and Asia on architecture, API design, and releases.
- Provide technical guidance and code reviews; mentor other engineers to improve algorithm design and C++ practices.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
- 10+ years building production-quality software tools, preferably in EDA, CAD, or computational geometry.
- Expert-level proficiency in modern C++ (C++14 or later): STL, templates, memory management, and performance tuning.
- Strong foundation in graph algorithms, data structures, and algorithmic complexity analysis with demonstrated applied experience.
- Experience designing, implementing, and debugging complex algorithms in large, multi-contributor codebases.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot root causes and implement robust fixes that prevent recurrence.
- Effective written and verbal communication for collaborating with distributed engineering teams and presenting technical work.
Nice-to-have
- Hands-on experience with routing, placement, or other physical design algorithms.
- Familiarity with EDA tools, VLSI design flows, or semiconductor manufacturing concepts.
Education Requirements
MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (as stated in the posting).
