Job Title

Principal Project Manager

Role Summary

Lead large, cross-functional programs to deliver embedded software, platform enablement, and silicon-related products (MCU, DSP, SoC). Work with firmware, Linux/Zephyr stacks, device drivers, boot/ROM, SDKs, middleware, security, and hardware teams to align roadmaps and ensure on-time, high-quality releases.

Drive program execution across global, multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate platform and factory organizations to maximize reuse, scalability, and time-to-market.

Experience Level

Senior - typically 7–10 years of program, project, or technical program management experience managing embedded software, firmware platforms, or semiconductor development programs.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include program leadership, cross-team coordination, risk management, and delivery of embedded software/platform releases.

  • Own and drive large-scale embedded software and silicon enablement programs to meet scope, schedule, budget, and quality targets.
  • Lead Agile program execution and coordinate across firmware, Linux, Zephyr, ROM, Common HAL, security, silicon, hardware, validation, systems, and applications teams.
  • Align software platform roadmaps with product schedules to maximize reuse and accelerate time-to-market.
  • Plan and manage delivery of SDKs, BSPs, boot software, device drivers, middleware, and platform releases.
  • Coordinate firmware and silicon milestones (ES samples, EVT, DVT, PVT, first silicon bring-up, validation readiness, production release).
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to software–silicon integration, open-source dependencies, platform adoption, and release readiness.
  • Manage matrixed engineering resources across products and platforms to optimize execution predictability and accountability.
  • Define and track KPIs and metrics for platform adoption, software reuse, quality, release performance, and engineering productivity.
  • Lead continuous improvement, retrospectives, and lessons-learned activities to improve software quality and delivery processes.
  • Provide concise program reporting to engineering leadership and executive stakeholders.

Requirements

Must-have technical and program management skills needed to perform the role.

  • 7–10 years managing embedded software, firmware platforms, silicon enablement, or semiconductor development programs.
  • Strong technical foundation in embedded systems: firmware, drivers, RTOS integration, embedded Linux/Zephyr environments, boot and ROM software, SoC initialization, and low-level I/O.
  • Hands-on engineering background with experience developing firmware, writing drivers, or contributing to hardware/board bring-up.
  • Experience with Linux kernel drivers, BSP development, Yocto/OpenEmbedded workflows, and embedded release processes.
  • Proficiency with program and engineering tools such as MS Project, Jira, Confluence, Jama Connect, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD tooling.
  • Demonstrated leadership, decision-making, communication, and stakeholder management across global teams and time zones.
  • Strong analytical skills and a data-driven approach to solving technical and organizational problems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, complex dependencies, and aggressive delivery schedules.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (approximately 10% of the time).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Preferred certifications mentioned in the source include PMP, PMI-ACP, Scrum Master, and SAFe. (No explicit equivalent-experience clause provided.)
