Job Title

Principal Product Engineer - NPI (CPO and Optical Pluggables)

Role Summary

Drive new product introduction (NPI) through transition to high-volume manufacturing for advanced silicon photonics, co-packaged optics (CPO) and optical pluggable modules. Work within a global operations team spanning product and test engineering, failure analysis, supply chain, reliability and quality.

Experience Level

Senior-level role; typically 5–10 years of relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on manufacturing readiness, yield, and scalability for optical products.

  • Lead NPI activities with emphasis on manufacturing process development and product scalability (DfM).
  • Define and champion Design for Manufacturability requirements across cross-functional teams.
  • Manage transfer of advanced optical designs into high-volume production; drive manufacturing readiness and characterization.
  • Execute PFMEA and related risk-reduction activities during NPI and production ramp.
  • Own yield roadmaps, cost analysis and continuous yield-improvement initiatives.
  • Provide manufacturing intelligence through data analysis and cross-site coordination.

Requirements

Key technical skills and hands-on experience required for success in this role.

  • Deep practical experience with Silicon Photonics, co-packaged optics, and high-speed optical components (lasers, detectors, modulators).
  • Proven track record in module/device testing, characterization, and transferring products to volume production.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills; experience with automated yield monitoring and data tools such as JMP (JSL), Python, or SQL.
  • Experience driving manufacturing readiness activities, including PFMEA and production characterization.
  • Demonstrated technical ownership and ability to influence global, cross-functional partners.
  • Experience with failure analysis, supply chain interaction, or manufacturing quality programs is desirable.

Education Requirements

MS or PhD in Photonics, Physics, or a related engineering field; the posting indicates 5–10 years of relevant experience is typical.
