Job Title

Principal Product Engineer

Role Summary

Lead product and test engineering for new silicon products through definition, pre-silicon readiness, first-silicon bring-up, manufacturing test, and launch. Work within Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) and the Compute Silicon & Manufacturing Engineering (CSME) organization to optimize power, performance, thermal, and test flows across platforms and production.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Preferred 10+ years of product and manufacturing experience; minimum experience expectations vary by degree (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Primary duties include ownership of product/test engineering and cross-functional program leadership from definition to manufacturing.

  • Define and drive pre-silicon and post-silicon readiness for power, performance, thermal, and power delivery (LDOs, integrated VRs).
  • Lead ATE test program implementation and optimization for SOC power/TDP and binning.
  • Manage product manufacturing fuse requirements and end-to-end fusing data flows across sockets.
  • Perform test bring-up, characterization, debug, and yield analysis; define test content and methods.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, external vendors, and supply chain partners to meet sample delivery and quality/quantity milestones.
  • Drive power/performance tuning in collaboration with platform/system engineers.
  • Support qualification, failure analysis, and yield recovery strategies (redundancy/repair implementation).
  • Deliver technical presentations and status to stakeholders; lead sub-projects within larger programs.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, security/export requirements, and capabilities for successful performance in this role.

  • Proven experience in semiconductor IC development, manufacturing, testing, or packaging.
  • Practical experience with ATE test program development, characterization, and production bring-up.
  • Knowledge of DFT, silicon fabrication processes, product qualification & reliability, and basic transistor/device concepts.
  • Strong project leadership and program management skills; experience managing vendors and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with power/performance modeling and ATE binning optimization across pre- and post-silicon phases.
  • Track record in yield analysis, failure analysis, and implementing yield recovery techniques.
  • Ability to work with platform/system engineers to correlate system-level and ATE measurements.
  • Must be able to pass Microsoft's Cloud Background Check and provide documentation required for export-controlled information access.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience in high-performance computing, AI workloads, GPUs or CPU SoCs, and large-scale product manufacturing.
  • Experience with Advantest V93K or similar ATE systems.
  • Device physics, system/platform validation, and experience across ATE/RVP/customer boards.
  • Strong statistical background (DOE), scripting/debugging skills, and familiarity with DFM techniques.

Education Requirements

Doctorate (PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field plus 3+ years technical experience; OR Master's degree in those fields plus 6+ years; OR Bachelor's degree in those fields plus 8+ years; OR equivalent experience. Related technical fields and equivalent practical experience are accepted per the posted minimum qualifications.
