Job Title

Principal Product Engineer

Role Summary

Principal Product Engineer on Microsoft's Silicon, Manufacturing, and Packaging Engineering (SMPE) team within SCHIE, responsible for product and test engineering for cloud SoCs from definition through manufacturing and launch.

Work focuses on pre‑ and post‑silicon readiness, power/performance/thermal validation, ATE test development, manufacturing fuse flow, and cross‑functional delivery for cloud hardware.

Experience Level

Senior — typically 8+ years of relevant product/test engineering experience, or equivalent as described in the Education Requirements.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include leading product engineering activities that ensure successful bring‑up, characterization, test, and production of large‑scale SoCs.

  • Lead product/test engineering for new product development, validation, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Drive pre‑silicon and first‑silicon readiness for power, performance, thermal, and power‑delivery (LDOs, integrated VRs) including bring‑up and tuning.
  • Develop and optimize ATE test programs (power/TDP binning, characterization, debug, yield analysis) and coordinate correlation with platform teams.
  • Define product manufacturing fuse requirements and manage end‑to‑end fuse data flow across test sockets.
  • Manage cross‑functional projects, external vendors, and supply‑chain/production partners to meet sample delivery and production milestones.
  • Perform failure analysis, yield recovery, qualification, and implement corrective actions with relevant teams.

Requirements

Must‑have qualifications and technical skills.

  • Extensive experience in semiconductor IC development, fabrication, testing, and packaging.
  • Proven experience with ATE test program development, bring‑up, characterization, debug, and yield analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of DFT and manufacturing test methodologies and test content development.
  • Experience with power/performance modeling and ATE binning optimization across pre‑ and post‑silicon phases.
  • Practical knowledge of silicon fabrication processes, device physics, and basic transistor theory.
  • Demonstrated project leadership: driving cross‑functional teams, managing vendors, and delivering on program milestones.
  • Experience with product configuration (SKU), sample delivery flow, and production ramp processes.

Nice‑to‑have

  • Experience in high‑performance computing, AI workloads, GPUs/CPUs, or high‑power SoCs.
  • Familiarity with Advantest V93K or similar ATE platforms.
  • Background in system/platform validation across ATE/RVP/customer boards.
  • Probability/statistics experience (DOE), failure analysis, and yield recovery methods.
  • Experience with trusted computing architecture, unit/integration testing, and software debugging/optimization.

Education Requirements

Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field plus 3+ years technical engineering experience; OR Master’s in EE/CE/CS or related plus 6+ years; OR Bachelor’s in EE/CE/CS or related plus 8+ years; OR equivalent practical experience.
