Role Summary
The Principal Product Engineer will serve as a technical bridge between customers, field teams, and product engineering for Cadence Stratus HLS in Cork. You will own customer evaluations and production adoption engagements end-to-end, translate customer design challenges into actionable product requirements, and work with R&D to prepare development-ready specifications.
Experience Level
Senior 6 requires 5+ years of combined experience in hardware design, EDA applications engineering, product engineering, or a closely related field.
Responsibilities
Drive customer adoption of Stratus HLS and convert field feedback into clear, implementable product requirements.
- Lead customer evaluations from scoping through production sign-off alongside field application engineers and sales.
- Investigate and resolve complex technical design issues to unblock customer projects.
- Provide hands-on training on HLS methodology and tool features to increase customer competency.
- Identify emerging customer use cases and research capabilities to accelerate HLS adoption, including AI-assisted flows.
- Author and refine product requirement and functional specifications in collaboration with product management and R&D.
- Represent the voice of the customer in roadmap and planning discussions with qualitative and quantitative evidence.
- Manage relationships across product, R&D, field engineering, and solutions teams to align roadmap priorities with delivery.
- Deliver evidence-based feedback from evaluations and field engagements to reduce production risk and improve product quality.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and professional experience; a second list notes desirable skills.
- 5+ years experience in hardware design, EDA applications engineering, product engineering, or related roles.
- Strong background in digital hardware design for ASIC or FPGA, including hands-on RTL design experience.
- Working proficiency in C++ sufficient to read and discuss implementation-level trade-offs.
- Experience using hardware design and EDA tools on Linux, including scripted flows and command-line operation.
- Proven ability to convert customer or stakeholder needs into clear, structured product or functional specifications.
- Track record of managing technical engagements with external customers from evaluation to production adoption.
- Clear written and verbal communication with the ability to influence technical direction using data.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with SystemC (advantage) and High Level Synthesis tools (Stratus HLS, Catapult, Vitis HLS, etc.).
- Familiarity with AI-assisted hardware design flows or integrating AI tools into hardware design.
- Prior field/support experience for EDA tools and exposure to requirements management tools such as JIRA or Confluence.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and delivering training sessions; familiarity with Tcl or Python scripting for EDA automation.
Education Requirements
Bachelors degree (required) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline; Masters degree in a related field strongly preferred.
