Principal Power Modeling System Architect

Role Summary

Lead architecture and development of power-modeling processes across Arm subsystem and platform architectures to influence IP, subsystem and platform decisions. The role focuses on quantitative power and thermal analysis to guide architecture, implementation, firmware and software power-management choices.

You will work within the Central Technology - Systems team, partnering with engineering teams across Client, Infrastructure, Automotive and IoT systems to deliver measurable improvements in power and performance.

Responsibilities

Own and drive cross-team power-modeling activity that informs architecture and implementation decisions.

  • Develop and maintain quantitative, system-level power-modeling processes covering architecture, physical implementation, firmware, package/PCB PDN, and software power management.
  • Estimate, model and evaluate workload power and thermal behavior before and after tapeout to support design decisions.
  • Define and evaluate ASIC power states and optimization techniques (power gating, clock gating, DVFS, aging mitigations).
  • Produce internal specifications and partner/customer documentation to communicate solutions and requirements.
  • Build consensus and share knowledge across multiple teams on complex, cross-functional power topics.
  • Identify high-impact focus areas and prioritize effort to maximize system-level benefits.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • 7+ years experience in power management and/or power analysis for complex SoCs or IPs, preferably involving CPUs and/or GPUs.
  • Proven ability to estimate, model and evaluate workload power and thermal characteristics both pre- and post-tapeout.
  • Experience with ASIC power-state definition and optimization techniques such as power gating, clock gating, DVFS and aging mitigations.
  • Practical exposure to SoC development workflows, including feature enablement, IP development, post-silicon lab work, firmware and power execution/modeling.
  • Track record of collaborating across hardware, firmware and software teams and producing clear technical specifications and documentation.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with Arm processors, CPU architecture, interconnects and SoC subsystems.
  • Knowledge of modern smartphone AP, laptop or infrastructure SoC use cases, constraints and workloads.
  • Experience with SoC clock architectures, timing and Vt mix.
  • Familiarity with pre- and post-silicon development processes.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working across distributed teams and time zones.

Education Requirements

The posting specifies a B.Sc. in Electronic, Electrical or Computer Engineering (other degrees considered with relevant experience). It also lists Masters or PhD in Electronic, Electrical or Computer Engineering as desirable. Equivalent practical experience is accepted in place of specified degrees.
