Job Title
Principal Power IC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead the design and delivery of transistor-level power management circuit blocks for mixed-signal integrated circuits at ADI's Shanghai design center. Responsible for schematic-through-silicon execution, silicon bring-up support, and cross-site collaboration to integrate power solutions into production products.
Experience Level
Senior engineer. Typical experience: MSEE with 7+ years of power IC design experience, or PhD with 5+ years; BSEE considered with equivalent depth of experience.
Responsibilities
Primary technical and cross-functional responsibilities:
- Design transistor-level power management blocks including DC-DC converters (buck, boost, buck-boost), LDOs, charge pumps, gate drivers, power stages, and protection circuits.
- Execute designs from schematic capture through simulation, layout oversight, post-layout verification, and tape-out support.
- Perform parasitic-aware simulation, power-stage optimization, design centering and Monte Carlo analysis across process corners and operating conditions.
- Optimize transient response, loop bandwidth, compensation, and load regulation; correlate bench measurements with simulation.
- Support silicon bring-up, debug measured results, and drive production release activities.
- Collaborate with global cross-functional teams on architecture trade-offs for efficiency, area, EMI, reliability, and cost.
- Contribute to process evaluation and identify circuit improvements for new process capabilities.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and abilities:
- Strong transistor-level design skills for high-performance power management circuits and proven delivery through tape-out and silicon validation.
- Solid understanding of BCD, HV-CMOS, and power FET process technologies, including high-voltage device physics and safe operating area constraints.
- Proficiency with Cadence IC design tools (Virtuoso, Spectre/APS) and power-stage simulation environments.
- Experience with control loop design, compensation techniques, and stability analysis for switching and linear regulators.
- Fluent in Mandarin and strong written/verbal English for cross-site collaboration.
- Ability to work effectively with global, cross-functional teams and support up to ~10% travel for collaboration and silicon activities.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience applying AI/ML techniques to design automation, optimization, or modeling workflows.
- Magnetics modeling and inductor/transformer co-design experience; system-level power delivery network analysis.
- Thermal analysis, package-level power dissipation modeling, and EMI/EMC mitigation techniques.
Education Requirements
MSEE (recommended) with senior-level experience; PhD accepted with fewer years of experience; BSEE considered if candidate has equivalent practical experience. Fields: Electrical Engineering or related technical disciplines. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable where specified.
