Job Title
Principal Power IC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Serve as the technical lead for design and delivery of high-performance power management integrated circuits. Drive architecture and transistor-level decisions across DC-DC converters, LDOs, gate drivers and protection circuits from specification through silicon validation and production.
Work across business units to influence process choices, product roadmaps, and reuse strategies while ensuring manufacturability, thermal performance, and system integration requirements are met.
Experience Level
Senior level β requires extensive, hands-on experience in power IC design (typically 8β10+ years of relevant industry experience).
Responsibilities
Lead technical direction and execution for power IC projects; responsibilities include:
- Define system-level architecture for power management ICs (buck/boost/buck-boost, LDOs, charge pumps, gate drivers, protection).
- Architect and design transistor-level power circuit blocks optimizing efficiency, transient response, and thermal behavior.
- Lead design and architecture reviews; evaluate trade-offs across efficiency, area, EMI, reliability, and cost.
- Drive parasitic-aware simulation, power-stage optimization, and design centering across process corners.
- Oversee physical implementation and layout to meet electrical, thermal, and manufacturability targets.
- Influence design flows, IP reuse strategies, and product roadmaps across multiple projects.
- Partner with product, applications, and process teams to translate customer needs into specifications and evaluate new process capabilities.
- Contribute to organizational knowledge through design reviews and cross-team technical forums.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Extensive transistor-level design experience for high-performance power management circuits.
- Proven record of leading power IC designs from concept through tape-out, silicon validation, and production releases.
- Deep understanding of BCD, HV-CMOS, and power FET process technologies, including high-voltage device physics and SOA constraints.
- Proficiency with Cadence Virtuoso and Spectre/APS or equivalent IC design and simulation tools.
- Experience with control loop design, compensation techniques, and stability analysis for switching and linear regulators.
- Experience with layout, physical implementation, and design-for-manufacturing practices.
- Strong presentation, technical writing, and interpersonal communication skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience applying AI/ML to design automation, optimization, or modeling workflows.
- Magnetics modeling and inductor/transformer co-design experience.
- Thermal analysis, package-level power dissipation modeling, and EMI/EMC mitigation techniques.
- Experience with reliability assessment and yield optimization (Monte Carlo, statistical design centering).
Education Requirements
Preferred: MSEE with 10+ years of power IC design experience, or PhD with 8+ years. BSEE considered with equivalent depth of practical experience. Degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or related technical fields are typical; equivalent practical industry experience will be accepted.
