Job Title

Principal Power and Thermal Innovation Architect

Role Summary

Lead identification and productization of system-, platform-, and datacenter-level power and thermal co-design innovations across architecture, hardware, software, and operations teams. Operate in a cross-functional Silicon Co-Design Group (SCG) to scout research and industry trends and drive selected ideas into production.

One short motivating sentence: work on high-impact power and thermal system design that affects performance, reliability, and efficiency across NVIDIA products and datacenters.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires extensive industry experience; posting requests 15+ years in relevant system-level power or thermal architecture roles.

Responsibilities

Accountable for end-to-end technical leadership, scouting, and productization of power and thermal system innovations:

  • Architect system, platform, and datacenter power and thermal co-design solutions and evaluate technical trade-offs.
  • Survey internal research, academia, standards bodies, and partner technologies to identify promising candidates.
  • Build product-differentiation cases considering performance, power, reliability, schedule, and cost.
  • Lead cross-functional alignment and drive concepts from prototype to production with architecture, VLSI, software, packaging, and operations teams.
  • Define and evolve workload-aware power/thermal controls, closed-loop telemetry, energy buffering, cooling intercepts, and memory co-design features.
  • Maintain a pipeline of candidate innovations, track productization status and decision gates, and brief leadership on roadmap impact.
  • Collaborate with external researchers, manufacturing partners, and platform teams to deliver next-generation products.

Requirements

Must-have technical background and demonstrated impact; nice-to-have items indicate strong differentiators.

  • 15+ years of experience in system-level power, thermal, or related architecture with deep expertise in at least one area: system power management, system thermal architecture, platform energy architecture, workload-aware power/thermal controls, or memory co-design.
  • Proven track record of taking research-grade ideas through system co-design into measurable product impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and align multi-disciplinary teams without direct authority.
  • External technical recognition such as publications, patents, or industry standards contributions and active participation in technical communities or standards bodies.
  • Excellent problem-solving, partnership, and communication skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience applying machine learning or data-driven techniques to power/thermal modeling or design-space exploration.
  • Background in system reliability, variability, aging management, RAS, and lifecycle considerations tied to power/thermal decisions.
  • Hands-on familiarity with emerging memory technologies (e.g., advanced HBM and stacked memory).
  • Sustained research contributions (PhD or equivalent) with continued impact after entering industry.

Education Requirements

BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience. Equivalent industry experience accepted in place of formal degree.
