Job Title
Principal Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead the complete physical implementation of critical SoC blocks for a high-performance AI accelerator, from early floorplanning through final tapeout signoff. Work on a small, cross-functional engineering team building next-generation inference hardware combining custom silicon with system and software integration.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 8+ years of physical design experience on complex, high-performance ASICs at advanced process nodes.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include end-to-end implementation and cross-team coordination to deliver production-ready silicon.
- Own complete physical design flow for one or more major SoC blocks: floorplanning, placement, routing, signoff.
- Drive place & route, clock tree synthesis, timing closure, power optimization, and physical verification.
- Develop and leverage AI-assisted implementation methodologies to improve productivity and accelerate schedules.
- Collaborate with architects, RTL designers, verification and software teams to optimize for performance, power, and area.
- Work with EDA vendors and foundry partners to resolve implementation and manufacturing issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and professional experience; bonus items listed separately.
- 8+ years of physical design experience for complex, high-performance ASICs at advanced process nodes (7nm or below).
- Deep expertise across the full implementation flow: synthesis, place & route, CTS, timing closure, physical verification, and signoff.
- Hands-on experience with implementation tools such as Cadence Innovus, Synopsys Fusion Compiler, or comparable platforms.
- Experience with industry signoff tools (PrimeTime, Tempus, or equivalent).
- Proven track record working cross-functionally with architects, RTL engineers, EDA vendors, and foundries to deliver complex silicon.
- Nice-to-have: experience with advanced packaging (2.5D/3D, CoWoS), IR/EM analysis, thermal optimization, signal integrity, or DFT-aware implementation.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
