Principal Performance Architect

Role Summary

Join Microsoft Silicon within SCHIE as a Principal Performance Architect on the MAIA Architecture Team. The role focuses on SoC performance analysis and optimization for AI workloads to support Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure.

Experience Level

Senior / Principal level. Typical experience guidance from the posting: ~8+ years with a Bachelor's (or equivalent), ~6+ years with a Master's, or ~3+ years with a PhD (see Education Requirements for full details).

Responsibilities

Work with architects and design teams to model, analyze, and improve SoC performance and power for AI workloads.

  • Collaborate with architects and provide design feedback for future SoC implementations.
  • Build and use performance models to identify bottlenecks for critical AI workloads.
  • Identify and evaluate performance and power optimization opportunities and trade-offs for AI accelerators.
  • Develop, integrate, and test SoC and IP models.
  • Work continuously with design and performance verification teams to close on SoC performance targets.

  • Must be able to pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check and required security screenings.
  • Proven experience analyzing SoC performance for AI/accelerator workloads and driving optimizations across hardware stacks.
  • Experience developing and integrating performance models at multiple abstraction levels.
  • Effective collaborator across architecture, design, and verification teams.
  • (Preferred) Experience with GPUs, Python, C, C++ and multi-level performance modeling.

Education Requirements

Posting specifies degree-or-equivalent rules: Doctorate (PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 3+ years technical engineering experience; OR Master’s in EE/CE/CS or related field with 6+ years technical engineering experience; OR Bachelor’s in EE/CE/CS or related field with 8+ years technical engineering experience; OR equivalent experience. Preferred qualifications note MS or PhD in relevant CS/EE/CE fields.
