Job Title

Principal Optical Wafer-Scale Test Lead

Role Summary

Hands-on individual contributor responsible for developing, executing, and improving wafer-level probe characterization for silicon photonics products. Works within the Photonic Fabric Engineering team to enable production-ready test capability, drive yield and reliability, and support NPI for photonic integrated circuits.

Experience Level

Senior — Principal-level technical lead. Posting specifies a minimum of 5 years of relevant optical/photonics test experience.

Responsibilities

Lead wafer-scale prober operations, testing automation, data analysis, and test improvements to support production and NPI.

  • Own operation, maintenance, and roadmap for wafer-scale probe stations (production and NPI).
  • Develop, qualify, and execute test recipes for passive and active optical/opto-electronic components.
  • Integrate and debug prober hardware and software with vendors and internal teams.
  • Establish calibration, preventive maintenance, and gauge R&R to ensure measurement integrity.
  • Develop automation for instrument control, prober sequencing, and data processing.
  • Build and maintain data infrastructure to archive and analyze large-volume wafer prober outputs.
  • Apply statistical analysis to identify process excursions, equipment trends, and yield drivers; report findings to design, process, and product teams.
  • Support NPI by correlating wafer-level test results with subsystem and system-level validation and executing test improvement plans to increase coverage and throughput.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and operational qualifications for the role.

  • Direct, hands-on experience operating, configuring, and maintaining commercial wafer-scale probe stations (e.g., Cascade/FormFactor, MPI, or equivalent).
  • Experience developing optical test setups and measurement methodologies for silicon photonics (tunable lasers, power meters, OSAs, fiber arrays).
  • Proficiency in automated instrument and machine control using Python (preferred), MATLAB, LabVIEW, or C#.
  • Experience managing and analyzing wafer-level datasets using JMP, DataConductor, or similar tools.
  • Solid understanding of integrated photonics testing principles and component characterization methods.
  • Ability to create engineering reports and communicate technical results to cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with prober vendor integration and equipment debug.
  • May require eligibility to access export-controlled technology; candidates may be subject to export license review.

Education Requirements

Minimum MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field; PhD preferred. Fields referenced: Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related technical disciplines.
