Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Lead development of system-level network simulation models and tools for NICs, switches, and future system architectures. Work with ASIC designers, network architects, and software engineers to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures.

Senior; expects 10+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and run simulations to validate and analyze network architectures and VLSI design choices.

• Develop simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures.
• Design and implement simulation motifs that produce realistic network scenarios.
• Create analysis and visualization tools for performance evaluation.
• Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance; analyze architectural trade-offs.
• Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, reproducible simulation results.
• Collaborate across hardware and software teams, including network architects and ASIC designers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for day-one impact.

• Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
• Proficiency in simulation/model implementation in C++.
• Proficiency in data analysis and scripting using Python.
• Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
• Experience building tools for performance analysis and visualization.
• Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
• Familiarity with software engineering practices for simulation projects (testing, CI, documentation).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. The role expects approximately 10+ years of relevant experience.
