Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Design and implement high-fidelity simulation models and motifs for network interface controllers (NICs), switches, and future system architectures to evaluate performance, scalability, and resilience. Produce analysis and visualization tools to support architecture decisions and collaborate closely with network architects, ASIC designers, and software teams.

This is a remote/teleworker role; primary work location is home.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on building, validating, and operating simulation environments that reproduce realistic network behavior and support architecture trade-off analysis.

  • Develop and maintain simulation models for NICs, switches, and system-level interconnects.
  • Design and implement simulation motifs to drive realistic network scenarios and workloads.
  • Create tools and visualizations for performance analysis and reporting.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures and design alternatives.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, reproducible simulation runs.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (network architects, ASIC designers, firmware, and software) to validate assumptions and iterate designs.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; education items are listed separately below.

  • Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
  • Proficiency in simulation/modeling using C++ and data analysis or scripting in Python.
  • Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies for performance and scalability.
  • Proven ability to produce analysis, visualizations, and tooling to support technical decisions.
  • Experience working effectively in cross-functional engineering teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with large-scale network or data-center simulations and visualization frameworks.
  • Familiarity with performance debugging, profiling, and benchmarking methodologies.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field β€” or equivalent practical experience.
