Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Develop and maintain system-level network simulation models and motifs for NICs, switches, and future architectures to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance. Work on tooling for analysis and visualization and deliver simulation outputs that inform architecture and ASIC decisions.

Collaborate with network architects, ASIC designers, and software teams to validate designs and guide optimization trade-offs.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience in network/system simulation or related fields.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures.
  • Create simulation motifs and realistic network scenarios to exercise designs.
  • Develop tools for performance analysis and visualization of simulation results.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures and report findings.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, maintainable simulation infrastructure.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, ASIC designers, firmware and software engineers to align simulation results with design goals.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Proficiency in simulation/modeling in C++.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and scripting with Python.
  • Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
  • Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
  • Experience with performance analysis and visualization techniques.
  • Practical software engineering skills: testing, version control, and reproducible workflows.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical results to architects and engineers.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with NICs, switches, VLSI or ASIC design contexts.
  • Experience with large-scale or distributed simulation frameworks and visualization tools.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field β€” or equivalent practical experience.
