Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Principal engineer responsible for building and running system-level network simulations to evaluate NICs, switches, and future system architectures. Lead development of simulation motifs, analysis tools, and visualization to inform architecture and ASIC trade-offs. Works remotely and collaborates with network architects, ASIC designers, and software teams.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting specifies 10+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include modeling, simulation, analysis, and collaboration to assess architecture performance and scalability.

  • Develop and maintain simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures.
  • Design and implement simulation motifs that produce realistic network scenarios.
  • Create tools for performance analysis and visualization of simulation results.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, maintainable simulations.
  • Collaborate with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to validate designs and trade-offs.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; concise list of desirable additional skills follows.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in network or system-level simulation and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
  • Proficiency in simulation modeling using C++ and data analysis using Python.
  • Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
  • Track record of working effectively in cross-functional teams and communicating results to architects and engineers.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with performance visualization tools and building analysis tooling.
  • Familiarity with software engineering practices for large simulation codebases and versioned tooling.
