Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Develop and maintain high-fidelity simulation models and analysis tools to evaluate NICs, switches, and system-level network architectures for performance, scalability, and fault tolerance. Work as a principal engineer on a cross-functional team with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to guide architectural decisions.

HPE is a large enterprise with competitive benefits and professional development programs.

Experience Level

Senior (Principal). The role targets experienced engineers with roughly 10+ years of relevant experience in network/system simulation, architecture analysis, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Key technical responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement simulation models for NICs, switches, and future system architectures.
  • Create simulation motifs and scenarios that reproduce realistic network behavior.
  • Develop tools for performance analysis and visualization of simulation results.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures and trade-offs.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, maintainable simulation code.
  • Collaborate with network architects, ASIC designers, and software teams to drive design decisions.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items indicated.

  • Must-have: 10+ years of experience in network or system-level simulation, architectural analysis, or closely related roles.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in simulation modeling using C++ and data analysis or scripting in Python.
  • Must-have: Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design, including analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
  • Must-have: Demonstrated ability to apply software engineering best practices (testing, version control, modular design) to simulation projects.
  • Must-have: Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical findings to architects and designers.
  • Nice-to-have: Prior experience specifically with NICs, switches, visualization/performance tooling, fault-tolerance modeling, or ASIC collaboration.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. (The posting lists Electrical Engineering and Computer engineering explicitly; equivalent practical experience is acceptable.)
