Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Design and implement system-level network simulation models and workflows to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance for NICs, switches, and future system architectures.

This role partners with network architects, ASIC designers, and software teams to drive architecture trade-off analysis and deliver reliable simulation-based validation and visualization tools.

Experience Level

Senior level. Position expects 10+ years of relevant experience in network/system simulation, architecture analysis, or related engineering roles.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

• Develop simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures.
• Design and implement simulation motifs and scenarios that reflect realistic network behavior.
• Create tools for performance analysis, data collection, and visualization.
• Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance; quantify architectural trade-offs.
• Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reproducible, efficient simulations.
• Collaborate with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to validate designs and requirements.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

• Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
• Proficiency in simulation/modeling using C++ and analysis/scripting in Python.
• Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
• Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional engineering teams.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience specifically with NIC and switch behavior, traffic motifs, and hardware/software co-design.
• Familiarity with visualization and performance-analysis toolchains.
• Prior experience interfacing simulation results with ASIC design or verification flows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
