Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Senior engineering role responsible for developing and maintaining system-level network simulation models and tools to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance for NICs, switches, and future system architectures.

This is a remote/teleworker position; the role collaborates closely with network architects, ASIC designers, and software teams to inform architecture and implementation decisions.

Experience Level

Senior β€” 10+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building simulation infrastructure, running experiments, and delivering actionable analysis.

  • Develop and maintain simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures.
  • Design and implement simulation motifs and realistic network scenarios to exercise architectures.
  • Create tools and visualizations for performance analysis and result interpretation.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures; identify bottlenecks and trade-offs.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, maintainable simulation code and workflows.
  • Collaborate with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to validate assumptions and guide design decisions.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required and preferred.

  • Must-have: Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in simulation modeling using C++ and data analysis using Python.
  • Must-have: Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies; demonstrated ability to evaluate performance and scalability.
  • Must-have: Experience applying software engineering best practices in simulation projects and working effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with NICs, switch architectures, or ASIC design background.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with visualization tools and large-scale simulation orchestration.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field β€” or equivalent practical experience.
