Job Title
Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI
Role Summary
Lead design and implementation of system-level network simulation models and analysis tools to evaluate NICs, switches and future system architectures. Work with network architects, ASIC designers, and software teams to drive performance, scalability, and fault-tolerance evaluations that inform architecture and implementation decisions.
Experience Level
Senior level β typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience in network/system simulation, architecture analysis, or related engineering roles.
Responsibilities
Build and operate realistic simulation environments and analysis pipelines to validate network architectures and designs.
- Develop simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures.
- Design and implement simulation motifs and scenarios that reflect realistic network workloads.
- Create tools for performance analysis, visualization, and reporting.
- Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance; quantify architectural trade-offs.
- Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, maintainable simulations.
- Collaborate with architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to translate findings into design requirements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 10+ years of relevant industry experience in network/system simulation, architecture evaluation, or similar roles.
- Proficiency in simulation/modeling with C++ and analysis scripting in Python.
- Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design, including performance and scalability considerations.
- Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
- Familiarity with performance visualization and data analysis techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical results to architects and engineers.
- Software engineering discipline: version control, testing, and reproducible simulation workflows.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with VLSI/ASIC design flows or working with ASIC/firmware teams.
- Background in distributed or parallel simulation frameworks.
- Experience with NIC/switch internals or network protocol implementations.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
