Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Lead development of simulation models and motifs for network interface cards (NICs), switches, and system architectures to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance. Inform architecture and design decisions by producing quantitative simulation results and analysis.

Work within a cross-functional engineering team including network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers. Position is designated Remote/Teleworker (primarily work from home).

Experience Level

Senior-level. 10+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building and using performance models and tools to validate and optimize network architectures.

• Develop and maintain simulation models for NICs, switches, and system-level topologies.
• Design and implement simulation motifs and realistic network scenarios.
• Create tools for performance analysis, data visualization, and result interpretation.
• Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance; quantify architectural trade-offs.
• Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, reproducible simulations.
• Collaborate closely with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineering teams to guide design choices.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

• Proficiency in simulation modeling in C++ and analysis or scripting in Python.
• Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
• Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
• Track record of working effectively in cross-functional teams and communicating technical results.
• Familiarity with software engineering practices for testing, version control, and reproducibility.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with performance visualization tools and large-scale simulation infrastructure.
• Background in ASIC or NIC design and validation.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
