Job Title
Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI
Role Summary
The Principal Network Simulation Engineer will design, implement, and validate cycle-accurate and system-level simulation models for NICs, switches, and future system architectures. The role focuses on performance, scalability, and fault-tolerance analysis and delivers tools and visualizations to quantify architectural trade-offs.
This role is remote/teleworker and works closely with network architects, ASIC designers, and software teams to inform hardware and system design decisions.
Experience Level
Senior-level β 10+ years of relevant experience in network or system simulation, architecture analysis, or related engineering roles.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing simulation infrastructure, running realistic network scenarios, and producing analysis that guides architecture and implementation choices.
- Develop and maintain simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures.
- Design and implement simulation motifs and workloads to drive realistic network scenarios.
- Create tools for performance analysis and visualization of simulation results.
- Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures.
- Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, testable, and efficient simulation code.
- Collaborate with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to validate designs and trade-offs.
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience required and preferred for effective performance in this role.
-
Must-have: 10+ years of professional experience in network or system simulation and architecture analysis.
- Proficiency in C++ for simulation model development.
- Proficiency in Python for analysis, scripting, and visualization.
- Strong understanding of network architecture, NIC/switch design, and system-level design trade-offs.
- Experience building performance-analysis and visualization tools.
- Familiarity with software engineering best practices: version control, testing, profiling, and performance tuning.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical findings to architects and engineers.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with ASIC design flows, hardware modeling, or large-scale distributed simulation frameworks.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
