Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Develop and run system-level network simulation models and tools to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance for NICs, switches and future system architectures. Partner with network architects, ASIC designers, and software teams to inform architectural trade-offs and guide design decisions.

Experience Level

Senior — typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience in network or system simulation, architecture analysis, or related engineering fields.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include building simulation infrastructure, running experiments, and delivering analysis that guides architecture and implementation choices.

  • Design, implement and maintain simulation models for NICs, switches, and system-level architectures.
  • Create simulation motifs and workloads that represent realistic network scenarios.
  • Develop tools for performance analysis, visualization, and result validation.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability and fault tolerance; quantify architectural trade-offs and optimization opportunities.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure simulations are reliable, reproducible and maintainable.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (network architects, ASIC designers, software engineers) to translate results into design guidance.

Requirements

Concise list of required and desirable skills.

  • Must-have: Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in simulation/modeling (C++) and analysis scripting (Python).
  • Must-have: Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
  • Must-have: Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical results.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with NIC/switch microarchitecture, VLSI/ASIC design context, performance visualization tools, or large-scale network simulation frameworks.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; or equivalent practical experience.
