Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Lead development of system-level network and VLSI simulation models and tooling to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance for NICs, switches, and future system architectures. Work on a remote engineering team collaborating with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to drive architecture trade-offs and optimizations.

Experience Level

Senior-level: 10+ years of relevant experience in network/system simulation, architecture analysis, or related fields.

Responsibilities

The role is responsible for building and operating realistic network simulation infrastructure and providing actionable analysis to guide architecture and ASIC decisions.

  • Develop and maintain simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures.
  • Design and implement simulation motifs and scenarios to reproduce realistic network behavior.
  • Create tools for performance analysis, visualization, and result interpretation.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures and document findings.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, reproducible simulation outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers.

Requirements

Core technical skills and experience required for day-to-day impact. Education details are listed separately below.

  • Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
  • Proficiency in simulation/modeling using C++ and data analysis using Python.
  • Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and driving optimization strategies.
  • Proven ability to design performance analysis and visualization tools.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively in cross-functional engineering teams and communicating technical results.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with large-scale/distributed simulation frameworks, visualization libraries, or prior exposure to ASIC/VLSI design flows and hardware modeling.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field; or equivalent practical experience is acceptable. (Source specifies "Bachelor's, Master's or PHD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer engineering or equivalent".)
