Job Title
Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI
Role Summary
Design and implement simulation models and analysis tooling for network interface controllers (NICs), switches, and system architectures to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance. Partner with network architects, ASIC designers, and software teams to quantify architectural trade-offs and guide hardware/software co-design.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience in network/system simulation, architecture analysis, or related fields.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Develop simulation models for NICs, switches, and future system architectures; implement simulation motifs that produce realistic network scenarios.
- Create and maintain tools for performance analysis and visualization.
- Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures and recommend optimizations.
- Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, maintainable, and efficient simulation code and workflows.
- Collaborate with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to validate designs and inform product decisions.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Proven simulation modeling experience using C++.
- Proficiency in data analysis and scripting with Python.
- Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
- Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
- Effective communicator able to work in cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with ASIC/SoC design flows or close collaboration with ASIC teams.
- Experience building performance visualization or instrumentation tools.
- Background in fault-tolerance modeling and large-scale scalability testing.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field β or equivalent practical experience.
