Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Design and implement simulation models and motifs for NICs, switches, and future system architectures to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance. Deliver analysis tools and visualizations to validate network and system-level designs.

The role works with network architects, ASIC designers, and software teams to drive architectural trade-off analysis and provide data-driven recommendations for system design.

Experience Level

Senior β€” 10+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building and validating simulation infrastructure and using it to assess proposed architectures.

  • Develop simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures.
  • Design and run realistic network simulation scenarios and motifs.
  • Create tools for performance analysis, metrics extraction, and visualization.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of architectures and design options.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reproducible, maintainable simulation code.
  • Collaborate closely with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to align simulations with design goals.

Requirements

Key technical and professional requirements. Must-have items are listed first.

  • Must have: Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
  • Must have: Proficiency in simulation/modeling in C++ and analysis scripting in Python.
  • Must have: Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
  • Must have: Experience evaluating performance and scalability of networked systems.
  • Must have: Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical results clearly.
  • Nice to have: Prior exposure to NIC/switch architectures, ASIC design constraints, or data-center networking workloads.
  • Nice to have: Experience building visualization or instrumentation tools for simulation outputs.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent practical experience.
