Job Title
Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI
Role Summary
Senior engineering role to develop and run system-level network simulations that evaluate NICs, switches, and future system architectures. The engineer will build simulation models and tooling, run realistic network scenarios, analyze performance/scalability/fault tolerance, and communicate results to architects, ASIC designers, and software teams.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 10+ years of relevant simulation, networking, or system-architecture experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include building and operating simulation models and delivering actionable analysis.
- Develop simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures to evaluate performance and trade-offs.
- Design and implement simulation motifs and scenarios that reflect realistic network workloads.
- Create tools for performance analysis, result visualization, and automated reporting.
- Measure and evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures.
- Apply software engineering best practices to ensure simulation correctness, reproducibility, and efficiency.
- Collaborate closely with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineering teams to influence design decisions.
Requirements
Key skills and experience required. Items marked as "nice-to-have" are preferred but not mandatory.
-
Must-have: 10+ years of experience in network/system simulation, architectural analysis, or related engineering roles.
-
Must-have: Proficiency writing simulation models in C++ and performing data analysis in Python.
-
Must-have: Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design; experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
-
Must-have: Experience building tooling for performance measurement, visualization, and automated scenario execution.
-
Must-have: Strong software engineering practices: testing, version control, and reproducible experiments.
-
Must-have: Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical results clearly.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with distributed or large-scale simulation frameworks, NIC/ASIC internals, or domain-specific performance models.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field β or equivalent practical experience.
