Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Design and implement system-level network simulations and models for NICs, switches, and future system architectures to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance. Build analysis and visualization tools, and collaborate with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to inform architectural trade-offs.

Experience Level

Senior level. The role expects an experienced engineer with 10+ years in network or system simulation, architecture analysis, or related fields.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include designing, implementing, and validating simulation frameworks and using results to guide architecture decisions.

  • Develop simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures.
  • Design and implement simulation motifs to generate realistic network scenarios.
  • Create tools for performance analysis, data collection, and visualization.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, maintainable, and efficient simulations.
  • Collaborate with network architects, ASIC designers, and software teams to translate requirements into simulation studies.

Requirements

Core technical skills and experience required for successful performance in this role.

  • Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
  • Proficiency in simulation/modeling in C++ and data analysis or scripting in Python.
  • Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
  • Familiarity with performance, scalability, and fault-tolerance evaluation methods.
  • Experience applying software engineering practices (testing, version control, CI) to simulation code.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional, distributed teams and to communicate technical results to architects and stakeholders.
  • Additional useful skills: process improvement, Agile methodologies, analytical and critical thinking, mentoring or leadership at the principal level.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
