Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Lead development of simulation models and tooling to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of NICs, switches, and future system network architectures. Work on system-level modeling, performance analysis, and visualization to inform architecture and ASIC decisions.

This is a remote/teleworker position collaborating with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineering teams.

Experience Level

Senior / Principal level. The posting indicates approximately 10+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures.
  • Design and implement simulation motifs and scenarios that reflect realistic network behavior.
  • Create tools for performance analysis and visualization of simulation results.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures and configurations.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, maintainable simulation code and reproducible results.
  • Collaborate with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to validate design trade-offs.

Requirements

Core technical requirements and skills. Items labeled "Must-have" are required; "Nice-to-have" are preferred.

  • Must-have: Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
  • Must-have: Proven experience implementing simulation models and frameworks in C++.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in data analysis and scripting in Python for performance evaluation and visualization.
  • Must-have: Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies for networked systems.
  • Must-have: Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical results to architects and designers.
  • Nice-to-have: Prior experience with NIC/switch performance modeling, large-scale simulation tooling, or visualization libraries.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. The posting also references a senior/principal level with approximately 10+ years of relevant experience.
