Job Title
Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI
Role Summary
Develop and maintain performance and system-level simulation models for NICs, switches, and future system architectures to inform architecture and product decisions. Build simulation motifs and analysis tools that reproduce realistic network scenarios and measure performance, scalability, and fault tolerance.
Collaborate with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineering teams to translate requirements into validated models and recommended optimizations.
Experience Level
Senior level β typically requires 10+ years of relevant industry experience; principal-level technical leadership expected.
Responsibilities
Deliver simulation-based analysis and tools that guide network and system architecture choices.
- Develop and validate simulation models for NICs, switches, and system interconnects.
- Design and implement simulation motifs and workloads representing realistic network scenarios.
- Create tools and visualizations for performance analysis and reporting.
- Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures and configurations.
- Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, maintainable simulation code.
- Collaborate with network architects, ASIC/RTL designers, and software teams to define experiments and interpret results.
Requirements
Core technical and professional requirements for the role.
- 10+ years of industry experience in network/system simulation, architecture, or related fields.
- Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
- Proficiency in simulation/modeling with C++ and analysis scripting in Python.
- Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and performance optimization strategies.
- Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical findings.
- Experience applying software engineering best practices to simulation code (testing, version control, CI).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with visualization tools and performance dashboards.
- Knowledge of distributed simulation techniques and large-scale performance testing.
- Familiarity with ASIC/RTL design considerations and hardware-software co-design.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field β or equivalent practical experience.
