Job Title
Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI
Role Summary
Lead development of simulation models and tooling to evaluate NICs, switches and future networked system architectures for VLSI/ASIC designs. Work with architects, ASIC designers, and software teams to quantify performance, scalability, and fault tolerance and to inform architecture and design trade-offs.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 10+ years of relevant industry experience in network/system simulation, architecture evaluation, or related engineering roles.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on simulation model development, architecture evaluation, and cross-functional delivery.
- Develop and maintain cycle-accurate and system-level simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures.
- Design and implement simulation motifs and scenarios that represent realistic network workloads.
- Create analysis and visualization tools to measure performance, scalability, and fault-tolerance.
- Run experiments to evaluate architectural trade-offs and identify optimization opportunities.
- Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, maintainable simulation infrastructure.
- Collaborate closely with network architects, ASIC designers, firmware and software engineers to support design decisions.
Requirements
Key technical and professional requirements. "Must-have" items listed first.
- 10+ years of experience in network/system simulation, architecture evaluation, or equivalent roles.
- Proven proficiency in C++ for building simulation models.
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis, tooling, and visualization.
- Strong understanding of network architecture, system-level design, and performance analysis.
- Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimizing for performance, scalability, and fault tolerance.
- Familiar with software engineering practices: testing, version control, and automation.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical results to architects and engineers.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with NIC, switch, or SoC/ASIC design teams and workflows.
- Experience with performance visualization and large-scale experiment orchestration.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
