Principal Modelling Engineer
Role Summary
Lead development and validation of compact and behavioural models for Power MOSFET technologies. Use simulation and virtual prototyping to predict device and system behaviour, support product releases, and provide modelling expertise to product, applications, and customer teams.
Experience Level
Senior β minimum 6 years of experience in power semiconductors or a related technical field.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include developing models, running system simulations, and providing technical leadership across product programmes.
- Contribute to high-priority platform release projects for new Power MOSFET technologies.
- Develop, validate, and maintain compact device and behavioural models.
- Perform virtual prototyping and system simulations to predict product and application performance.
- Improve model accuracy, stability, convergence, and extraction methodologies.
- Develop simulation support for DC-DC converters, motor controllers, and other power applications.
- Support customers and applications teams with design and modelling expertise.
- Create technical launch materials and modelling support packages for new products.
- Act as a recognised technical expert and provide guidance across the engineering organisation.
- Produce and maintain project documentation throughout the development lifecycle.
- Mentor junior engineers and help develop modelling capabilities within the team.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role; nice-to-have items are listed separately.
- Minimum 6 years' experience in power semiconductors or a related technical field.
- Expert understanding of Power MOSFET device physics and electrical behaviour.
- Proven experience with behavioural modelling and virtual prototyping of integrated circuit blocks.
- Experience with Compact SPICE modelling, Verilog-A, and VHDL-AMS.
- Hands-on experience with simulation and design tools such as TCAD, LTspice, and Cadence.
- Experience supporting customer design activities and application development.
- Track record of technical leadership within semiconductor product development environments.
- Strong data analysis, problem-solving, and programming skills (Python or similar).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with DrMOS and Smart Power Stage technologies.
- Knowledge of semiconductor packaging, device characterisation techniques, ICCAP, KLayout, and R3D.
- Familiarity with semiconductor manufacturing processes and device structures.
Education Requirements
Degree (Bachelor's) or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Physics, Semiconductor Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
