Job Title

Principal MMIC Design Engineer

Role Summary

Lead design and development of GaN/GaAs MMIC and multichip RF/microwave products from concept through production. Work as the technical lead on integrated product teams and drive design verification, optimization, and handoff to manufacturing and test.

Position includes technical leadership, mentoring of engineers, and contribution to design publications and invention disclosures.

Experience Level

Principal / Senior professional role. Typical experience guidance: PhD with 6+ years, MS with 10+ years, or BS with 12+ years (see Education Requirements for details).

Responsibilities

Accountabilities for the role include:

  • Serve as technical lead for MMIC-based product development and multichip module integration.
  • Perform MMIC design using nonlinear device models and 2.5D/3D electromagnetic simulation tools.
  • Manage product checkout, optimization, and design verification testing (DVT) in the Microwave Lab.
  • Execute DVT analysis, document results, and present findings to internal or external customers.
  • Support product lifecycle stages: concept/feasibility, development, qualification, and production.
  • Mentor junior engineers on design concepts and best practices.
  • Prepare technical publications and invention disclosures to advance technology and IP.

Requirements

Candidate must meet technical and eligibility requirements below.

  • Must-have: Recent, relevant experience designing microwave/millimeter-wave MMICs (amplifiers, switches, phase shifters, attenuators, TDUs, FEMs, or hybrid modules).
  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with III-V compound semiconductor technologies (GaN and GaAs) and strong understanding of FET behavior.
  • Must-have: Expert user of nonlinear circuit simulators (ADS or Microwave Office) and experience with 2.5D/3D EM tools such as SONNET, Axiem, Momentum, or HFSS.
  • Must-have: Strong understanding of microwave measurements and calibration methods: S-parameters, power/efficiency, source/load-pull, noise figure, linearity, and IMD.
  • Must-have: Strong written and verbal communication skills for concise technical summaries.
  • Must-have: Authorization: position requires work on U.S. government contracts β€” applicants must be U.S. Persons (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, asylee, or refugee). This role is not eligible for company visa sponsorship.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience designing high-performance millimeter-wave GaAs/GaN power amplifiers and meeting simultaneous power, bandwidth, efficiency, and linearity targets.
  • Nice-to-have: SiGe or CMOS RFIC/MMIC, analog, or mixed-signal design experience; track record of technical publications.

Education Requirements

Required: Degree in Electrical Engineering (RF/Microwave focus) with experience-level guidance: BS +12 years, MS +10 years, or PhD +6 years.
