Job Title

Principal Mixed-Signal Design Engineer

Role Summary

Lead architecture, design, verification, and delivery of high-performance mixed-signal circuits for automotive SerDes (GMSL) products. Work with cross-functional teams to define requirements, supervise layout and verification, and support lab characterization and production test development.

Position is based in Beaverton, OR or Colorado Springs, CO; this posting references the Colorado Springs location.

Experience Level

Senior β€” Principal-level role. Typical background: 10+ years of relevant mixed-signal/SerDes design experience.

Responsibilities

Design, verify, and deliver analog and mixed-signal SerDes components and support production.

  • Develop system and circuit architectures; create and specify individual circuit blocks.
  • Own analog/mixed-signal circuits through full product development lifecycle.
  • Perform transistor-level circuit design, simulation, and verification for Rx equalizers, DFEs, CDRs, Tx drivers, VCO/PLL/dividers, bias circuits, and related blocks.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex SerDes products and mentor engineering teams.
  • Supervise layout activity and run post-layout simulations and extracted verification.
  • Prepare documentation, conduct design reviews, and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
  • Perform lab evaluation, characterization, and debug using oscilloscopes, signal generators, BERTs, logic analyzers, and data acquisition systems.
  • Support development of production test and debug flows.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Expertise in high-speed SerDes circuit design (Rx equalizers, DFEs, CDRs, Tx drivers, clock generation, biasing).
  • Extensive experience with Cadence analog/mixed-signal design, simulation, layout, and verification flows.
  • Strong transistor-level design intuition and analytical skills; experience with CMOS small/large-signal device models.
  • Solid understanding of semiconductor device physics (CMOS transistors, diodes, MIM caps, integrated inductors, implanted resistors).
  • Extensive circuit analysis skills including HF effects, model limitations, and temperature dependence.
  • Hands-on lab experience characterizing and debugging mixed-signal SoCs.
  • Experience with package and layout parasitics and extracted-simulation flows.
  • Proven track record delivering products to market and providing technical leadership on complex projects.
  • Clear written and verbal communication and effective teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to travel (approximately 10%).
  • Note: Non-U.S. citizens or non-permanent residents may require export licensing review for access to technical data.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with video protocols (DisplayPort, CSI/DSI, HDMI, PCIe).
  • Analog/digital behavioral modeling and design of digital control blocks.
  • DSP design experience and Matlab proficiency (digital filters, decimators).
  • Familiarity with automated digital design flows (Verilog, synthesis, place & route, STA).
  • Prior team or project leadership experience.

Education Requirements

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) or equivalent is listed as the minimum qualification; the posting also accepts equivalent practical experience. Fields referenced include Electrical Engineering and related technical disciplines. Minimum practical experience indicated is approximately 10+ years.
