Principal Mixed Signal Design Engineer
Role Summary
Work within the Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) Industrial team to lead mixed-signal IC development for high-speed, fine-line analog CMOS and chiplet-based system designs. Provide technical leadership through system- and circuit-level architecture, design execution, and cross-functional integration.
Role focuses on wireline transceivers, digitally-assisted high-speed analog, clock & data recovery, VCO/PLL, and high-speed custom digital circuits for production test instrumentation.
Experience Level
Senior - 7+ years of relevant industry experience in system design, architecture, and mixed-signal IC development.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include leading design architecture, delivering complex mixed-signal blocks, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to integrate ICs into larger systems.
- Lead architecture and detailed design of complex mixed-signal systems for ATE products.
- Design wireline transmitters and receivers, including analog and digital equalization.
- Develop mixed-mode decision-feedback equalizers (DFE) and digitally-assisted high-speed analog circuits.
- Design and implement clock & data recovery circuits; collaborate on VCO/PLL development.
- Design custom high-speed digital logic to support analog front-ends.
- Integrate IC designs into larger system/board-level environments with cross-functional teams.
- Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers; present technical results to stakeholders.
- Participate in project planning and design reviews; travel up to 10% as needed.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- 7+ years in system design/architecture engineering and design integration for mixed-signal ICs.
- Proven experience in RF or high-speed CMOS and/or data converter design.
- Expertise with FinFET processes (e.g., 16 nm, 5 nm) or fine-line planar analog CMOS (e.g., 28 nm).
- Experience with software-defined CMOS communications or radar system design.
- Proficiency in digitally-assisted high-speed analog design and wireline equalization (analog & digital).
- Strong presentation, technical writing, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to lead technical efforts and mentor less-experienced engineers.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required; Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) preferred. Field: Electrical Engineering or closely related technical discipline. (No alternative degrees or "equivalent experience" language provided.)
