Job Title
Principal Mixed-Signal Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead design, architecture, and verification of high-speed automotive SerDes and supporting mixed-signal circuits on the Automotive GMSL team. The role owns analog/mixed-signal circuit blocks through development, layout supervision, lab bring-up, and product release.
Position is based in Beaverton, OR or Colorado Springs, CO and focuses on SerDes building blocks such as Rx equalizers, DFEs, CDRs, Tx drivers, and clock generation.
Experience Level
Senior — Principal level. The position expects 10+ years of relevant experience in mixed-signal/analog SerDes design and leadership experience.
Responsibilities
Design and technical leadership responsibilities for automotive SerDes products.
- Define architectures and specify individual circuit blocks; perform system-level analysis to optimize implementations.
- Own analog and mixed-signal circuits across the product development lifecycle.
- Perform detailed circuit design, simulation, and verification for Rx equalizers, DFEs, CDRs, Tx drivers, VCO/PLL/dividers, bias circuits, and auxiliary blocks.
- Provide technical leadership on complex SerDes products and mentor engineering teams.
- Supervise layout activities and run post-layout simulations.
- Prepare design documentation and lead design reviews.
- Perform lab evaluation, characterization, and debug using signal generators, oscilloscopes, BERTs, logic analyzers, and DAQ systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and support production test development.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, tools experience, and other requirements. Preferred skills listed separately.
- Expertise in high-speed SerDes circuits: Rx equalizers, DFEs, CDRs, Tx drivers, clock generation, and bias circuitry.
- Extensive experience with Cadence design, simulation, layout, and verification tools for analog and mixed-signal designs.
- Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics (CMOS transistors, diodes, MIM caps, integrated inductors, implanted resistors) and transistor-level design.
- Advanced circuit analysis skills, including high-frequency and temperature effects, and awareness of model limitations.
- Hands-on lab experience characterizing and debugging mixed-signal SoCs and high-speed links.
- Good intuition for package and layout parasitics and experience with extracted simulations.
- Clear written and verbal communication, proven product delivery track record, and ability to provide technical leadership across disciplines.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
- Export-control note: candidates who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents may require export licensing review for access to certain technical data.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) or equivalent; the posting specifies a Master’s degree or equivalent with 10+ years of relevant experience. Fields include Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, physics, mathematics, or other related technical disciplines. Equivalent practical experience is explicitly accepted.
