Principal Member of Technical Staff, CPU Core Architecture/RTL Engineer
Role Summary
Responsible for RTL design and microarchitecture of a functional unit in AMD’s next-generation CPU core. Work includes RTL coding, verification, synthesis, timing convergence and collaboration with hardware and software teams to deliver high-performance processor features.
Location: Fishkill, NY. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Experience Level
Senior-level (Principal). Senior engineering and leadership responsibilities; typically 7+ years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary technical and leadership responsibilities include:
- Design and implement RTL for processor core pipeline and related logic.
- Define microarchitecture and collaborate on high-level architecture with hardware and software teams.
- Contribute to design verification, synthesis, power-reduction, timing convergence, and floorplanning.
- Lead and mentor engineering teams; supervise junior engineers and drive methodology improvements.
- Support full product lifecycle from clean-sheet design through tapeout and post-silicon debug.
Requirements
Required and preferred technical skills and experience (must-haves first):
- Proven RTL design and coding experience (Verilog) in CPU, SoC, or ASIC environments.
- Strong understanding of processor architecture and microarchitecture development.
- Experience with verification methodologies, synthesis flow, and timing-closure concepts.
- Experience with power-saving techniques, clocking, reset sequencing, and power management.
- Familiarity with physical design concepts, static timing analysis, DFT/DFD, and post-silicon debug.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and debugging skills; development experience from design to tapeout is preferred.
- Comfortable scripting for automation (Perl, Shell, Tcl).
- Experience with x86 or ARM ISA is desirable.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD preferred; degree emphasis in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science with focus on computer architecture. Equivalent practical industry experience may be considered.
