Principal Manufacturing Engineer (Subcon, Backend / Assembly)

Role Summary

Act as the primary technical liaison between Nexperia and outsourced semiconductor assembly subcontractors/OSATs. Ensure stable, high-quality, cost-effective IC assembly operations by driving technical alignment, resolving production issues, and managing subcontractor performance.

Experience Level

Senior — requires 10+ years of experience in semiconductor assembly, wafer-level or backend manufacturing, preferably in high-volume / high-mix environments.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include technical oversight of subcontractor assembly operations, issue resolution, and support for new product introductions and continuous improvement.

• Serve as the technical interface to external subcontractor assembly/backend production sites.
• Review and approve process or material changes proposed by subcontractors as a first-level technical gatekeeper.
• Support process risk assessments and ensure changes meet quality and reliability requirements.
• Drive root-cause analysis and resolution of production issues, yield problems, and quality deviations at subcontractor sites.
• Monitor and manage subcontractor operational and quality KPIs and performance reporting.
• Support NPI and industrialization of new packages and processes at subcontractors.
• Lead or support cost-reduction and value-engineering initiatives related to assembly/backend processes.
• Participate in customer, quality, and VDA audits and support compliance verification activities.
• Support project milestones and technical reviews involving subcontractors.

• Must-have: 10+ years' experience in semiconductor assembly / wafer-level / backend manufacturing, with experience in high-volume and high-mix production.
• Must-have: Strong understanding of semiconductor packaging processes and manufacturing flows.
• Must-have: Demonstrated experience resolving yield, quality, and production issues at subcontractor or external manufacturing sites.
• Must-have: Project management experience in engineering or manufacturing environments.
• Must-have: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; effective communication and stakeholder management.
• Must-have: Ability to collaborate with external partners and drive cross-organization alignment.
• Nice-to-have: Experience supporting NPI/industrialization, participating in audits, and leading cost-reduction/value-engineering projects.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
