Principal Manager, System Level Test & Manufacturing Engineering
Role Summary
Lead the Penang-based System-Level Test (SLT) organization within Microsoft's Silicon & Manufacturing Packaging Engineering team. Own SLT test strategy, integration, system-to-ATE correlation, high-volume manufacturing execution, diagnostics, and quality learning for Microsoft's custom silicon products.
Manage cross-functional relationships with product engineering, test teams, manufacturing partners and supply chain to ensure production readiness, yield, quality and scalability.
Experience Level
Senior - Principal/Manager level. Requires 10+ years of semiconductor product/test/validation engineering experience and 10+ years of technical or people leadership.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include leading SLT execution at OSAT partners, establishing manufacturing health metrics, failure diagnostics and cross-functional leadership.
- Lead SLT production readiness and execution at OSAT partners: capacity, equipment, platform stability, test time, yield and operational readiness.
- Establish and drive metrics for yield, quality, capacity, cycle-time and cost.
- Resolve production excursions and systemic manufacturing issues across functions.
- Drive continuous improvement of SLT effectiveness, stability and scalability across manufacturing sites.
- Establish system-to-ATE correlation; identify gaps between system failures and ATE/SLT coverage and implement improvements.
- Translate system-level learnings into ATE and SLT screening improvements.
- Lead system-level failure triage and scalable diagnostics across silicon, package, hardware, firmware and software boundaries.
- Drive RMA learning into manufacturing test coverage and screening strategies.
- Build and develop a high-performing SLT/product engineering team; define technical ownership and succession plans.
- Serve as APAC SLT leadership interface across Silicon Engineering, System Validation, Firmware, Manufacturing Quality, Supply Chain and external partners; communicate risks and recovery plans.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and screening obligations. Preferred skills listed separately.
- 10+ years semiconductor product, test or validation engineering experience, including system-level test or high-volume manufacturing.
- 10+ years of technical or people leadership leading engineering teams or major cross-functional silicon/manufacturing programs.
- Proven experience with first-silicon bring-up, NPI, qualification, production ramp and high-volume manufacturing.
- Experience with high-performance silicon (CPU, GPU, AI accelerators or complex SoCs) and manufacturing screening.
- Experience managing SLT/product-test execution at OSAT or high-volume manufacturing partners.
- Familiarity with ATE, SLT, system-level correlation, diagnostics, telemetry, automation and production infrastructure.
- Experience using production and fleet/RMA data to identify test coverage gaps and drive manufacturing improvements.
- Proficiency with scripting/programming for test, diagnostics and data analysis (e.g., Python, C/C++ preferred).
- Strong cross-functional leadership, communication and executive presentation skills.
- Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud Background Check and export-control screening; citizenship or residency documentation will be required as a condition of employment.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical discipline; or equivalent practical experience.
