Job Title
Principal Layout Engineer
Role Summary
Lead the analog layout team responsible for physical implementation of analog and RF blocks for MCUs and custom analog products. Work with cross-functional teams (analog design, digital layout, verification) to deliver high-quality silicon across multiple process nodes and foundries.
Experience Level
Senior level. The role expects substantial prior experience (posting specifies 10+ years in analog layout).
Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate physical design activities for analog/RF components, ensure integration with subsystem and IC teams, and maintain quality and schedule.
- Lead a team of analog layout engineers and develop team expertise.
- Produce layouts for analog and RF blocks used in MCU, NFC, UWB, BT/BLE products.
- Work across multiple process nodes and foundries (examples listed: 140 nm to 16 nm; CMOS, BCD, FD-SOI, FinFET).
- Provide accurate estimates for area, performance, and schedule; drive delivery to meet aggressive timelines.
- Collaborate with analog designers to ensure layout meets performance, power, and area requirements.
- Maintain and develop layout scripts and automation tools to improve productivity.
- Perform layout verification and sign-off activities (DRC, LVS, etc.).
- Deliver physical models (LEF, libraries) for subsystem and IC integration.
Requirements
Key qualifications and skills required to perform the role.
Must-have:
- 10+ years' experience in layout of analog blocks and systems, with track record of delivering working silicon for high-volume products.
- Experience leading a global engineering team.
- Strong fundamentals in transistor-level integrated circuits and device physics; experience with layout matching and parasitics, ESD and latch-up considerations.
- Proficiency with analog layout and verification tools (example tools: Cadence Virtuoso, Siemens Calibre).
- Experience with signal chain and power-design layouts and debugging issues on silicon.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with MCU, NFC, UWB, and BT/BLE product layouts.
- Experience across a broad set of process technologies and foundries (BCD, FD-SOI, FinFET, multiple nodes).
- Experience developing layout automation and scripting to accelerate flows.
Education Requirements
MSEE or BSEE (or equivalent practical experience) is expected; the posting lists "MSEE/BSEE or working equivalent."
