Principal Layout Engineer

Role Summary

Lead the analog layout team responsible for physical design of analog blocks and systems across MCU, NFC, UWB and BT/BLE products. Coordinate cross-functional integration, verification and delivery of physical models for high-volume silicon.

The team is based in Catania and supports global product development across multiple process nodes and foundries.

Experience Level

Senior (Principal-level). Typically requires 10+ years of experience in analog/layout engineering and team leadership.

Responsibilities

Accountable for technical leadership, hands-on layout work, verification, automation and delivery of physical designs.

• Lead and mentor a team of analog layout engineers.
• Perform and review layout of analog and RF components for MCU, NFC, UWB and BT/BLE products.
• Work across multiple process nodes and foundries (140nm–16nm; CMOS, BCD, FD‑SOI, FinFET).
• Provide accurate estimates on area, performance and timelines; drive schedules without sacrificing quality.
• Collaborate with analog design, digital layout, verification and subsystem teams to ensure integration.
• Develop and maintain layout scripts and automation tools.
• Perform layout verification (DRC, LVS) and sign-off; deliver LEF/Lib physical models for integration.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience required to perform the role.

• 10+ years' experience in layout of analog blocks and systems.
• Experience leading a global engineering team.
• Proven track record of delivering working silicon for high-volume products.
• Strong fundamentals in transistor-level integrated circuits and device physics.
• Knowledge of layout matching, parasitics, latch-up and ESD mitigation.
• Proficiency with analog layout and verification tools such as Cadence Virtuoso and Siemens Calibre.
• Experience with signal chain and power design layouts.
• Rigorous analytical and debugging skills for design and silicon issues.

Education Requirements

MSEE or BSEE (Master's or Bachelor's in Electrical/Electronics Engineering) or equivalent practical experience.
