Principal Functional Safety Architect (f/m/d)
Role Summary
Member of NXP's CTO Functional Safety Competence Centre responsible for defining and delivering functional safety platform and IP solutions for automotive and industrial SoCs. The role drives safety architecture, requirements and assessments to ensure compliance with ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 across Platform and IP modules.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 8–10+ years of relevant functional safety experience (Master's preferred with ~8+ years; B.Tech indicated with ~10+ years).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include specifying safety requirements, enabling assessments, and supporting SoC integration.
- Deliver functional safety Platform and IP solutions compliant with ISO 26262 and IEC 61508.
- Define and document safety requirements for Platform and IP modules.
- Manage Platform and IP modules developed as SEooC throughout their lifecycle in collaboration with internal design teams.
- Prepare safety modules for functional safety assessment and support safety audits/assessments.
- Perform safety analysis activities (FMEDA, FTA, DFA) and plan/execute fault injection.
- Support SoC-level integration of safety Platform and IP and implement IP assumptions of use.
- Report compliance status, identify gaps and propose mitigation actions to management.
- Contribute to the internal functional safety expert community and define safety feature roadmaps.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience.
- Proven track record leading IP, subsystem or SoC functional safety development through full lifecycle.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 26262 and IEC 61508.
- Experience with safety analysis techniques: FTA, DFA, FMEDA, and fault injection.
- Experience in complex SoC and IP development compliant to ISO 26262 Part 11.
- Experience with safety audits and assessments and preparing modules for assessment.
- Ability to define safety requirements and collaborate with internal and external IP teams.
- Strong cross-functional communication, reporting and documentation skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with automotive and industrial product domains and platform/IP roadmap definition.
- Experience managing SEooC and supporting SoC-level integration planning.
Education Requirements
B.Tech in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or similar discipline with at least 10 years of relevant experience; Master’s degree in Electronics or Computer Engineering preferred with 8+ years of experience.
