Job Title
Principal Firmware Engineer (Wi-Fi)
Role Summary
Design, implement, and validate firmware for Wi‑Fi systems on SoCs. Work with hardware, systems, and software teams to define firmware architecture, perform bring‑up, and drive product readiness.
Role emphasizes low‑level embedded development, hardware debugging, performance optimization, and mentoring other engineers.
Experience Level
Senior level (Principal). Specific years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
The main responsibilities focus on firmware architecture, development, and system integration for Wi‑Fi products.
- Architect and implement embedded firmware for Wi‑Fi on SoC platforms.
- Develop, debug, and optimize C/C++ and assembly code for performance and reliability.
- Perform hardware bring‑up and debug interactions between firmware and analog/digital hardware.
- Integrate and validate networking stacks and protocols (e.g., 802.11, TCP/IP).
- Use JTAG, emulators, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers and other debug tools for root‑cause analysis.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (hardware, system SW, test) to drive productization.
- Produce design documentation, test plans, and release deliverables.
- Mentor and guide junior firmware engineers and influence technical direction.
Requirements
Must‑have technical skills and experience required for the role.
- Proven experience developing firmware for Wi‑Fi or wireless SoC products at an advanced/architect level.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++; experience with assembly for embedded targets.
- Experience with embedded RTOS or bare‑metal firmware development and device drivers.
- Hands‑on hardware debug experience and familiarity with SoC peripherals and interfaces.
- Experience with toolchains, debuggers, JTAG, and common embedded test equipment.
- Experience with networking protocols (802.11 family, TCP/IP) and protocol debugging.
- Familiarity with version control (Git), CI, and scripting for automation (e.g., Python).
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work across hardware and software domains.
- Nice to have: wireless standards expertise, security features in firmware, Bluetooth or other RF stacks.
Education Requirements
