Principal Field Applications Engineer – Processor IP, Software, and Custom Silicon
Role Summary
Customer-facing field applications engineer responsible for enabling design wins across North America by bridging customer requirements with processor IP, software toolchains and custom silicon solutions. Works with industrial, automotive and IDM customers during pre-sales and early development phases.
Experience Level
Senior – requires 10+ years of experience in field/application engineering, applications engineering, or design engineering.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities supporting customer engagements, design-in, and solution enablement:
- Serve as primary technical interface for customers during pre-sales and early development.
- Lead customer presentations, architectural reviews and product demonstrations.
- Support customer engineering teams in evaluating and adopting processor IP, software toolchains and development environments.
- Drive design-in activities and support technical discussions to secure CPU IP licensing, custom silicon programs and software solutions.
- Assist customers transitioning from evaluation to implementation and support system-level optimization (performance, power, cost).
- Collaborate with sales and business development to provide technical input to proposals, RFIs and customer materials.
- Engage ecosystem partners, participate in workshops and industry events, and represent solutions within the semiconductor ecosystem in NAM.
- Perform duties in a safe and responsible manner in accordance with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security programs.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes:
- 10+ years in field application, applications, or design engineering supporting customer engagements and design wins.
- Experience in Semiconductor IP, SoC/ASIC development, or embedded systems relevant to industrial, automotive, or IDM markets.
- Strong understanding of electronic architectures (MCUs, SoCs, domain/zonal controllers) and system-level integration.
- Familiarity with processor architectures, embedded software development (compilers, SDKs, OS) and system integration challenges.
- Proven customer-facing communication, problem-solving skills, and ability to operate independently in a field-based role.
- Hands-on technical mindset with strong debugging capability and ability to align technical depth with customer business needs.
- Fluent in English.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with RISC-V ecosystem or CPU IP integration.
- Prior experience supporting industrial, automotive, or IDM customers in North America.
- Experience with SoC development and custom silicon implementation flows.
- Understanding of functional safety standards or design requirements in Industrial & Automotive markets.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in an engineering discipline or similar technical field (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science) as stated in the posting.
