Principal Field Applications Engineer – Processor IP, Software, and Custom Silicon
Role Summary
Customer-facing field engineering role supporting North American Industrial, Automotive, and IDM customers. Acts as the primary technical interface to enable design wins for processor IP, software toolchains, and custom silicon solutions.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 10+ years of relevant Field/Application or Design Engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Provide technical support through pre-sales and early development to secure customer design wins and enable product adoption.
- Serve as primary technical contact for customers during evaluations and early design phases.
- Deliver presentations, architectural reviews, product demonstrations, and technical workshops.
- Guide customers on processor IP integration, software toolchains, and system architecture tradeoffs.
- Drive design-in activities and support transition from evaluation to implementation for CPU IP licensing and custom silicon projects.
- Collaborate with Business Development on RFIs, proposals, and opportunity closure.
- Engage ecosystem partners (software, EDA, design services) and represent solutions at customer events.
- Support system-level optimization for performance, power, cost, and functional-safety considerations.
- Perform work in a safe and compliant manner following environmental, health, safety, and security policies.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience, and attributes.
- 10+ years in Field Application Engineering, Applications Engineering, or Design Engineering supporting semiconductor IP, SoC/ASIC, or embedded systems markets.
- Experience supporting Industrial, Automotive, or IDM customers and delivering customer-facing technical engagements and design wins.
- Strong understanding of electronic architectures (MCUs, SoCs, domain/zonal controllers) and system-level design/integration.
- Familiarity with processor architectures, embedded software development (compilers, SDKs, OS), and debugging techniques.
- Proven ability to operate independently in a field-based role and to bridge technical depth with customer business needs.
- Excellent customer-facing communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills; fluent in English.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with RISC‑V ecosystem or CPU IP integration.
- Prior support of North American industrial, automotive, or IDM customers.
- Experience with SoC development and custom silicon implementation flows.
- Knowledge of functional safety standards and requirements for Industrial & Automotive markets.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering discipline or similar (as listed by the employer).
